FAQ
Some of the questions we get asked at Keys Massage and Bodywork
Why should I get a massage?
Massage therapy is really preventative medicine. It can help you relax and rejuvinate. Massage therapy improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to the body tissues. Massage therapy can relieve muscle tension and pain, increase flexibility, and reduce stiffness. You give your body the chance to take a deep breath, unwind, and revitalize when you receive a massage treatment.
What conditions would massage therapy be helpful for?
People may seek a massage therapist for any number of problems but the most common reasons are: back pain, stress, headaches and migraines, muscle spasms, repetitive strain injury, circulatory problems, post injury and post surgical rehabilitation, and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and tendinitis.
What will happen when I arrive for my massage therapy appointment?
When you arrive for your appointment, your therapist will take the time to ask you some questions about your medical history and related information. This will help the therapist get a better sense of a treatment plan that will fullfill your specific needs. The therapist will take the time to explain all the procedures concerning the massage session. Please take the time to voice any concerns and ask questions. The massage appointment is your time, so make sure you are getting the type of therapy you need. After the therapist has explained the massage procedure she will leave the room to allow you to get undressed to your level of comfort, and to then lie face down on the massage table under the top sheet. The massage therapist will knock on the door to make sure you are ready. The massage therapist will re-enter the room when you are ready and adjust the face cradle and pillows to make sure you are comfortable. Tell the massage therapist if you are too warm or cold, or if you are uncomfortable in any way. The massage therapist will generally use a light oil or lotion on the skin for the massage. You will be underneath a sheet at all times. Only the part of the body being treated at any one time is uncovered. After your massage, the therapist will leave the room so you can get changed. Take your time getting up.
How can I get the most from my massage?
Always give feedback to the massage therapist. Let the therapist know if the pressure is too much or too little. If anything makes you uncomfortable, tell your therapist right away.
What should I do after the massage and how will I feel?
Drink lots of water after your massage session. Most people will feel calm and relaxed after their treatment. Occasionally you may feel a mild aching or soreness for a day.
Will my massage teatment be painful?
Massage therapy shouldn't hurt. Sometimes there is slight pain or burning when the massage therapist applies pressure over a tight or tense muscle area. If the pressure is too much, let your therapist know right away.
What do I wear during my massage?
In Florida we have draping laws which means that throughout your treatment you will always be covered with a sheet. When you enter the treatment room the therapist will explain the procedures and ask any pertinent questions. The therapist will then leave the room allowing you the privacy to disrobe as far as you are comfortable. Many people leave on their underwear or bring shorts or a sports bra. It is always an option to receive a massage fully clothed as well.
How often should I get a massage?
This really depends on your needs and what you are trying to derive from your massage session. If relaxation is your main goal, then a weekly massage or a massage as often as you feel is necessary to help relieve stress is great. If you are receiving a particular type of massage treatment for a specific muscular or medical problem, then you and your therapist can plan the most beneficial treatment schedule together.
